Katengi refers to the vibrant cotton cloth that women in Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Sudan use for their traditional wrapped dresses and head cloths.  Here three women walking away from the viewer display the lively patterns and colors along with their babies swaddled within the folds.  This scene is a common one throughout the Rwandan countryside to the present day.  Katengi is also used for table linens and decorative wall hangings.
