The vibrant colors of this open-air fruit market are those of the locally grown bananas, mangoes, papayas, avocados, oranges, pineapple, and passion fruit—as well as the dazzling clothing. Agriculture is the main source of income for Rwanda’s rural population, and women do a great deal of that work, bringing their produce to market and managing the family’s economy on whatever small profit they might make.
