This joyous work depicts drummers, adorned in beaded straps and headdresses made of sisal fiber, playing the kalinga, a large ceremonial drum made from the wood of the Umuvumu tree, a symbol of protection. The drums traditionally stayed with the king (mwami) and beat specially for the elite Intore warriors.
