A man and a woman pick coffee in Rwanda’s fertile volcanic soil. Their basket is full of coffee beans, which are bright red when ripe and turn brownish-black only after roasting. Note the use of the tight, small stitches for the beans, which adds depth to the composition. Coffee is grown on small family farms in Rwanda. It is the country’s largest export, sustaining more than 400,000 farmers nationwide.
