Two strong Rwandan men skillfully shape iron at a simple but effective forge.

Ongoing archaeological excavations show evidence of iron forge sites in southern Rwanda that date back 2500 years or more, providing evidence that pre-colonial East Africa utilized iron for agricultural tools and weaponry. This contradicts the widely held belief that Europeans brought science and technology, including metal, to Africa.
