Two women walk together.  A large basket filled with food is perfectly balanced on one’s head; the other holds a different type of basket, the traditional Rwandan “peace basket” known as an agaseke. It contains a gift. Their clothing is colorful and festive.  Everything suggests they are on their way to a special occasion, possibly a wedding. The background is highly stylized and suggests the landscape of Rwanda, “The Land of a Thousand Hills.” The Masai and Rwandans have common ancestors, rooted in the Bantu language family.  Women with baskets on their heads are seen in Rwanda even in the twenty-first century.
