All of Rwanda’s lions were killed during the 1994 Genocide, but in June of 2015, seven lions—two males and five females—were brought to Rwanda from South Africa. After a brief quarantine, they were introduced to the 276,800 acre Akagera National Park, marking an important milestone in conservation for both the park and the country of Rwanda.
