A stylized lion and his tiny cub recline in a rich green field.
All of Rwanda’s lions were killed during the 1994 Genocide, but in June of 2015, seven lions—two males and five females—were brought to Rwanda from South Africa. After a brief quarantine, they were introduced to the 276,800 acre Akagera National Park, marking an important milestone in conservation for both the park and the country of Rwanda.
